How to Rank Your Local Service Business on Google in 90 Days
Local SEO without the mystery. The 90-day plan we've used to take real businesses from invisible to top-3 in their service area.
By Bo Smith
Most local SEO advice is either obvious (''get reviews'') or impossible to verify (''build authority''). Here''s the actual 90-day plan we run for the seven local service businesses we operate, with timelines and milestones.
Days 1-7: Foundation
- Verify your Google Business Profile.
- Lock down your NAP (name, address, phone) across the top 20 directories. Use a citation builder or do it manually.
- Choose your primary category and 2-3 secondary categories.
- Add 30-50 photos: real work, your team, your trucks, your shop.
- Write a real GBP description that includes your service area and primary service.
Days 8-21: Content foundation
- Audit your existing website. If it''s thin, plan a rebuild.
- Create one service-area landing page per major neighborhood you serve. Each page: 600-800 words, schema, local proof.
- Add 8-12 service pages, one per service offering. Same structure.
- Add LocalBusiness, FAQPage, and BreadcrumbList schema.
- Submit your sitemap to Search Console and request indexing for every new page.
Days 22-45: Reviews and signal
- Send a review request after every completed job. Email + SMS.
- Respond to every review within 24 hours. AI drafts, you approve.
- Post to your GBP every week. Photo + caption + link.
- Get listed in 3-5 local industry-specific directories (chamber of commerce, BNI, trade associations).
Days 46-75: Authority
- One blog post per week, focused on long-tail local intent (''how to'', ''cost of'', ''signs you need'').
- Two GBP posts per week.
- One inbound link per month from a local source: news mention, partnership announcement, sponsorship.
Days 76-90: Measure and adjust
- Run a grid scan across your service area for your top 5 keywords.
- Compare to your day-1 baseline.
- Identify weak grid points and double down on content for those neighborhoods.
